Chicken Prices Soar with Nearly 100% Increase in Just One Week

Despite government assurances of controlling inflation, the prices of essential goods continue to rise, with chicken prices experiencing a sharp increase across the country on Sunday.

In Islamabad, the capital city, chicken prices nearly doubled in just one week. The cost of chicken meat surged to Rs880 per kilogram, up from Rs450 a week ago. Similarly, the price of live chicken jumped from Rs285 to Rs460 per kilogram, while desi chicken reached a record high of Rs900 per kilogram.

The trend was similar in Lahore, the capital of Punjab, where the price of broiler chicken meat has exceeded Rs700 per kilogram. Although the government had set the official rate at Rs595, reports indicate that chicken is being sold for up to Rs730 per kilogram at the Tollinton Market.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also seeing a similar rise in chicken prices. In Peshawar, the price of chicken increased by Rs70 within a week, reaching Rs510 per kilogram over the weekend. The cost of live chicken, which was officially priced at Rs440 per kilogram last week, has also risen significantly.
