Mohammad Rizwan Equals Rohit Sharma’s T20I Record

Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan has equaled India skipper Rohit Sharma's T20 International record during the Green Shirts' seven-wicket victory over Canada on Tuesday.

Pakistan secured their first win in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 by defeating Canada, keeping their hopes alive for advancing to the Super 8 phase of the tournament. During the match, Rizwan, with his run-a-ball knock of 53, achieved another milestone in his T20I career. Both Rizwan and Rohit have surpassed a total of 30 fifty-plus scores as openers in the shortest format, NDTV reported.

Babar Azam’s men achieved this crucial victory by chasing down a target of 107 runs in 17.3 overs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

The Men in Green were in a do-or-die situation after suffering back-to-back losses against the USA and India. However, their triumph over Canada provided a much-needed boost, earning them two crucial points.

The match saw Pakistan bounce back despite a shaky start, failing to score a boundary in the first four overs. Saim Ayub departed early after scoring just six runs, leaving the Green Shirts at 20-1 in 4.2 overs. However, Pakistan continued to play with caution as Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan formed a 63-run partnership, giving the 32-year-old wicket-keeper batsman a new T20I achievement that he shares with India’s 37-year-old captain.

Babar Azam trails behind them in second place on the list with 28 fifty-plus scores as an opener. He is followed by Australia’s David Warner, who sits in third place with a total of 27 fifty-plus scores.
