Punjab Plans to Open Two Additional Schools for Transgender Individuals.

The Punjab government has unveiled plans to broaden educational opportunities for transgender individuals by establishing two additional schools in Lahore, supplementing the existing one near Barkat Market.

These new institutions, situated in Raiwind and Wagah, aim to provide inclusive and supportive learning environments. The School Education Department (SED) will furnish transgender students across all three schools with complimentary books, stationery, and uniforms. Moreover, each student will be granted a scholarship of Rs. 10,000, distributed between educational materials and travel expenses, contingent upon maintaining an 80% attendance record.

This expansion builds upon the establishment of similar schools in Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, ensuring widespread access to education for transgender individuals across various regions.Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s earlier commitment to establishing transgender schools at the divisional level underscores the government’s dedication to inclusivity and equitable education.

It’s worth noting that nine out of Punjab’s eleven divisions now host transgender schools, reflecting a progressive initiative initiated during the tenure of the previous Usman Buzdar administration.
