The issue has become a widespread inconvenience specifically for mobile data users, with most reports coming from Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, and Zong subscribers.
Numerous users have taken to social media to report the problem, which ProPakistani confirmed earlier today. While WhatsApp calls and text messages are functioning normally, media files such as videos and images are not being processed or loaded as usual. Meanwhile, WhatsApp continues to work smoothly for users on wired broadband (WiFi). The media loading issue was most severe during peak hours following Youm e Ashur. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has yet to release a statement explaining the prolonged issue.
Major cellular mobile operators are currently investigating the matter.
Previously, the issue also affected other apps in the Metaverse, including Instagram and Facebook, with many users reporting frequent crashes on X and LinkedIn. However, the disruption is now primarily affecting WhatsApp services for mobile network users.
Earlier this week, local authorities restricted access to Facebook without any official announcement, causing difficulties for users across various internet service providers (ISPs). At that time, Downdetector indicated that the restriction also impacted Instagram and WhatsApp. Although the restriction was not intended to extend beyond July 17, it appears the government is now uncertain about how or whether to lift it.
