T20 World Cup 2024: India Reaches Final After Narrow Win Over England in Semi-Final

India will now compete against South Africa in the final on Saturday, June 29, in Barbados.

India’s bowlers put England’s batters under immediate pressure despite their confident start chasing the 172-run target. Jos Buttler’s early dismissal by Axar Patel triggered a collapse, with England unable to recover. Jasprit Bumrah and India’s spinners dominated, with England’s top batters including Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone failing to score significantly. Harry Brook’s 25 was a rare resistance before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Patel and Kuldeep each took three wickets, while Bumrah added two, bowling England out in 16.4 overs.

Earlier, India managed 171 runs in their innings despite a shaky start. Virat Kohli was bowled for nine by Reece Topley, and Rishabh Pant followed soon after. However, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav’s 73-run partnership stabilized the innings. Sharma scored 57 before falling to Adil Rashid, while Yadav added 47 before Jofra Archer claimed his wicket. Contributions from Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel helped India reach a competitive total. Chris Jordan took three wickets for England, with Rashid, Curran, Archer, and Topley each taking one.
