According to a former developer, Rockstar scrapped a highly anticipated DLC for GTA V in favor of maximizing profits from GTA Online.

Rubino, who worked on both Max Payne 3 and GTA V, revealed these details in a recent interview with YouTuber SanInPlay.

He explained that after GTA V’s launch, the team was divided, with many members shifting to develop Red Dead Redemption 2. Meanwhile, Rubino worked on a standalone DLC for GTA focusing on Trevor, where he played a significant role as an editor and camera artist. Despite its promising development, the DLC was eventually shelved due to the financial success and ongoing popularity of GTA Online.

Rubino acknowledged that some aspects of the canceled DLC may have influenced later updates in GTA Online. Reflecting on the decision, he expressed some regret, believing that both projects could have coexisted. However, the overwhelming success of GTA Online led to the DLC’s cancellation midway through development.
