Punjab crown to be set on head of first female CM

LAHORE: In the next few days, the crown of Punjab will be set on the head of the first female chief minister of Punjab.

PMLN supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif nominated his daughter Maryam Nawaz as the first female chief minister of Punjab on Tuesday and his brother Shehbaz Sharif as the next prime minister.

Maryam Nawaz has been termed an “iron lady” in her party for enduring the hardships of political struggle and imprisonment and doing tireless work and family responsibilities.

She was considered the pioneer of aggressive politics in the PMLN and included in 100 most influential women of the world in 2017.

The upcoming chief minister adopted aggressive politics after the decision in the Panama Papers case and became a crowd-puller within a very short time.

When she went out on the streets, she challenged her political opponents with bravery and stood with his father as well as alone, whatsoever the situation was, and became the true political successor to Nawaz Sharif.

In 1999, when the Nawaz Sharif government was dismissed, she also suffered hardships. After four months of house arrest, she was exiled to Saudi Arabia. She was appointed incharge of the Prime Minister’s Youth Program in November 2013 and gave laptops and scholarships to youths and played an important role in popularizing the party among youths.

During this period, she established an organized social media cell for the party and started introducing the party’s narrative on different social media platforms.

In the 2018 elections, she was given tickets for national and provincial assemblies, but before the elections, she was sentenced to seven years in the Avenfield reference and disqualified for 10 years. She refused to take B-class facilities in the jail and spent her imprisonment like ordinary prisoners.

After coming out of jail, she continued to organize rallies across the country and challenged the ruling regime. When she arrived in Karachi as part of her political struggle, her husband was arrested after breaking the door of his hotel room. Broadcasting of Maryam Nawaz’s speeches was also banned, but she continued to take out rallies across the country and challenged the ruling party in her public gatherings.

In recognition of her abilities and leadership, the PMLN leadership appointed her the chief organizer and senior vice president. She brought her father back and handled the election front of 2024 in a domineering manner. Now when it comes to government formation, the PMLN leadership has nominated her as the chief minister of Punjab.

Thus a new political history of Pakistan and Punjab is going to be made, in which she will take the oath as chief minister very soon.
