Pakistan Imposes Ban on Passports for Citizens Seeking Asylum Abroad

The Ministry of Interior has announced a significant decision regarding the issuance of passports to Pakistani citizens who have sought asylum in foreign countries

In a notification released in Islamabad, the Ministry stated that individuals of Pakistani nationality who have applied for asylum in other countries will be ineligible to obtain Pakistani passports. Furthermore, passports held by such individuals will be subject to cancellation, and subsequent renewal requests will not be entertained.

The decision, communicated through a formal notification by the Director General Passports, reflects the stance of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who directed the issuance of this directive. The announcement underscores the seriousness of the measure and indicates a concerted effort to implement the policy effectively, with the directive being circulated not only within the Ministry of Interior but also to the Foreign Ministry and all relevant stakeholders.
